Open Sky Aikido in Hillsborough, NC is a family-friendly martial arts school. Steve Kaufmann, 6th degree blackbelt, is the chief instructor at Open Sky. He excels at Aikido and Tai Chi and creates a safe, fun environment for learners.
Open Sky Aikido teaches daily Aikido classes for active adults and teens in Hillsborough and morning classes for adults in Carrboro.
Aikido is great for children. Our children's Aikido program has classes for 5 and 6 year olds, school age children, home schoolers, and mixed level summer camps.
Aikido is an invigorating Japanese martial art using nonresistance and centrifugal force, It is know for its grace and power. Aikidoists work with partners to gain centered balance, timing, and improve self-confidence.
Our Tai Chi classes for adults improve the student's energy and efficiency in all kinds of sports. The flowing, quieter paced movements of Tai Chi are recommended by medical researches for improving joint flexibility, balance, and mental well-being so that the older adult can have an active life.
Open Sky is located between the Triangle and the Triad areas of North Carolina in the historic town of Hillsborough. We are close to Duke University in Durham , UNC Chapel Hill in Chapel Hill and, close to Efland and Mebane. We are located at exit 164, I-85 and five minutes from exit 261, I-40 in the Shops at Daniel Boone.
